Google Fonts are free to download, but the official site makes it a bit clunky — you have to download a ZIP, extract it, and locate the right weight. Here's a faster way.
Method 1: Using Typescope (fastest — no ZIP required)
- Go to typescope.app
- Click the Google Fonts tab in the toolbar
- Search for the font you want (e.g. "Inter", "Playfair Display", "Noto Sans Malayalam")
- Find the font card and click the Download ↓ button in the bottom-left of the card
- Click the ▾ arrow to choose your format: TTF (recommended for desktop), WOFF2 (for web), or WOFF
- The font file downloads instantly — no ZIP, no account, no fuss
Method 2: From fonts.google.com directly
- Go to fonts.google.com
- Search for and open the font family you want
- Click "Download family" in the top-right corner
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file
- Find the weight you need (e.g.
Inter-Regular.ttf) and double-click to install
Which format to download
- Installing on Mac, Windows, or Linux → TTF
- Using in Figma, Sketch, or Adobe apps → TTF
- Embedding on a website in CSS @font-face → WOFF2
- Mobile app development → TTF
Installing the font after download
macOS: Double-click the .ttf file → click "Install Font".
Windows: Right-click the .ttf file → "Install" or "Install for all users".
After installing, the font is immediately available in Figma, Photoshop, Word, and all other apps that use system fonts.
Downloading multiple Google Fonts at once
In Typescope, you can select multiple font cards (click each one — a dot appears), then click the Download button in the bottom dock. A format chooser pops up — pick TTF, WOFF2, or WOFF and Typescope downloads all selected fonts sequentially.
